Stay Bold, Christian
Our fearless leader, Carl Kerby, has become well-known for the phrase, “Stay bold!” Originally used as a reminder to himself, this mantra has become the impetus for many others to stand boldly on the Word of God. In this blog, Carl not only addresses the need for boldness but also the source from which to develop this biblical confidence.

We live in a post truth society where moral relativism reigns.
Let’s face it—Biblical Christianity isn’t popular anymore. And sadly, many Christians are backing down when they should be stepping up.
Let me begin with a couple of questions:
Let me begin with a couple of questions:
“Why do so many believers hesitate to speak truth in public settings—especially when the Biblical worldview is so urgently needed?”
“Why are Christians—who affirm the authority of the Word of God, who believe in the risen Christ, and who possess the only message that leads to eternal life—often so timid?”
“Why are Christians—who affirm the authority of the Word of God, who believe in the risen Christ, and who possess the only message that leads to eternal life—often so timid?”
Here’s the uncomfortable answer:
Because the cultural climate is hostile to absolute truth.
We live in a post truth society where moral relativism reigns. Statements such as:
“Live your truth.” “Science disproves the Bible.” “Christianity is hateful.” seem to be everywhere. And these ideas aren’t just fringe—they dominate public education, entertainment, children’s video games, and social policy.
“Live your truth.” “Science disproves the Bible.” “Christianity is hateful.” seem to be everywhere. And these ideas aren’t just fringe—they dominate public education, entertainment, children’s video games, and social policy.
And instead of boldly confronting those lies with truth, many Christians have adopted a strategy of … silence. News Flash ... IT ISN’T WORKING!
Please hear me and understand that my heart is not to mock when I say, silence in the face of error is not compassion. It’s compromise.
You may be saying to yourself: “Who does he think he is? How can he say that?”
Well, I’m no one special, just a fellow pilgrim on the journey of life, to answer the first question. As for the second question, let’s look at this issue from a worldview perspective to understand why I’m even addressing this issue.
The biblical worldview holds that:
In contrast, secular humanism asserts that:
- Truth is objective and grounded in God’s character (John 17:17).
- Morality is revealed, not invented (Exodus 20).
- Human life has inherent value because we are made in God’s image (Genesis 1:27).
- History has a beginning, purpose, and conclusion under God’s sovereign control.
- Truth is subjective and culturally constructed.
- Morality evolves with society.
- Humans are advanced animals produced by evolutionary processes.
- History is directionless and accidental.
These are not compatible systems. One leads to dignity, purpose, and accountability.
The other leads to confusion, moral chaos, and spiritual death.
The other leads to confusion, moral chaos, and spiritual death.
Romans 1:16 declares, “I am not ashamed of the Gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.”
Notice in this verse that the Gospel is the power—not our personalities, not our clever arguments, not our popularity. The Gospel.
But we won’t proclaim it boldly if we’re ashamed of Genesis, embarrassed by biblical morality, or uncertain about the exclusivity of Christ. So now, to answer the “How can he say that?”, I respond with, “How can I NOT say it!” If we genuinely care about people, we have to address issues that are confronting us.
To wrap this up there’s a question we must each face:
To wrap this up there’s a question we must each face:
Do I believe that God’s Word is true—from the very first verse?
How we answer that question will determine whether we whisper or witness. Let me be clear: boldness is an act of obedience.
The darker the culture gets, the more clearly truth should stand out.
Jesus didn’t say, “Be clever.” He said, “Let your light shine before men” (Matthew 5:16).
And light only matters in darkness. The darker the culture gets, the more clearly truth should stand out. Boldness isn’t about volume—it’s about clarity. It’s about knowing what you believe, why you believe it, and being willing to say so—graciously, respectfully, and without apology. That’s what God commands us to do in His Word!

We live in a distracted generation, and it’s a recipe for spiritual anemia. We know this, as hours are spent scrolling through digital trivia and cat videos, while minutes—at best—are spent engaging with the Word of God.
Paul instructed Timothy to be “a workman who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15). That requires study. That requires discipline. And yes—it requires courage.
Ultimately, Christian boldness is based on whether we trust the Word of God or not! If Jesus Christ is Lord, if Scripture is sufficient and inerrant, if sin separates and Christ saves…
then we cannot remain silent while a generation drowns in confusion and despair.
then we cannot remain silent while a generation drowns in confusion and despair.
We’re not called to win popularity contests—we’re called to be ambassadors of truth.
Throughout history, God has honored bold believers:
And today?
Throughout history, God has honored bold believers:
- Daniel refused to stop praying—even under threat of death.
- Esther risked her life to speak truth to power.
- The apostles said, “We must obey God rather than men.”
And today?
- We have young people mocked in classrooms for affirming biblical creation.
- We have Christian professionals punished for refusing to affirm lies.
- We have pastors threatened for preaching the full counsel of God.
This isn’t the time for cowardly Christianity. No more “undercover” Christians!
It’s time to Stay Bold! Not bold because we’re strong, but because God is omnipotent (Jeremiah 32:17). Not bold because we’re smarter, but because His Word is sharper (Hebrews 4:12). Not bold to win arguments, but because eternity is at stake (Matthew 25:46). We don’t need more culturally clever Christians. We need biblically courageous ones (Joshua 1:9).
If Jesus Christ is Lord, if Scripture is sufficient and inerrant, if sin separates and Christ saves … then we cannot remain silent while a generation drowns in confusion and despair.
So, here’s our mission:
Know it!
By that, I mean KNOW the Word of God.
Live it!
The way we live our lives must be in sync with the words coming from our mouths.
Share it!
Intellectual arguments are worthless if they don’t lead to the preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We must let our light shine in the darkness we find all around us.
